My head hurts ..!!

I simply don’t like it when the clocks go back an hour …. I tried to stay up late to ‘sorta’ compensate, but it just wasn’t happening!

Besides, all my friends in the USA are a little further from me this morning!

Had a quiet birthday yesterday but the main celebration will be tomorrow, Monday as that’s when friends will be back from assignments and trips etc.

We’re going to a place called (the name escapes me, it’ll come to me) where you help yourself to Chinese or Indian food …. I think they even do pizza too.

Boys with toys

About 40 years ago and probably longer, Airfix was the only name I would consider when building models. I loved all the old war ships and aircraft but my biggest thrill was playing with their brand of soldiers.

I kid you not when I say I had every box that was produced, not just the 1:72 scale but the very small ones the Ho:00 scale, they stood about an inch high whereas the 1:72 scale stood about 2 to 3 inch high. I must have had a few boxes of each which would have amounted into the thousands.

I was sick to learn that they are worth a fortune today but who would have ever thought it back then.

This summer on visiting an old friend we just happened to be talking about the old days (omg do I sound old) and the subject of soldiers came up. He like me was a collector too. I use the term ‘collector’ loosely as really we only played with them. I want to sound sophisticated here and tell you we just re-enacted famous battles etc … but noooooo … we just ‘played’!!

As we grew older we started painting them, the intricacy and patience we needed kept us busy and quiet for hours which delighted our parents. Paint brushes with different thicknesses and other tools we’d invent to get the exact colours right were just par for the course. The excitement on telling a friend you concocted something weird and wonderful to get the job done.

I don’t know why but I remember making the Confederate captain the boss of all the allied troops, his name was of course ‘Steve’!! See I would choose the soldiers I particularly liked (didn’t matter the era or country they were from) and I would band them all together under their fearless leader ‘Steve’. They never lost a single battle and Steve, the hero, would always come out unscratched.

I asked my friend if he had any old soldiers knocking about. To my delight he said he had a box full somewhere in the shed and would dig them out for me at some point over the weekend we were there. He regretted that statement as I badgered him all weekend till he dug them out for me. I was telling my other friends who were with us about the ‘good old days’ and the wars we would have. I wanted to smell the plastic and just feel them again, be young again.

I wish these following pictures were the Ho:00 scale ... but alas!

So I played a little.....

..and a little more...

then a lille more...

Yep they're Cowboys...

I was so happy, in my element. The expression we would hear a million time was ''why does he stand them up just to knock them down again.''

People may laugh at our antics but in this world of computer games and the like I know my kid won’t relate to very much in the way of classic toys when she is my age. We really did have to use our imaginations, and this in turn made any and everything achievable.

I just had to show you this.... forgive me but googling the box covers of the entire Ho:00 scale just made me so happy.

That's almost hand to hand combat...

I used to roll a dice to decide the number of times to roll the marble as a bomb, for each side.

And then the cannons which would fire matchsticks....

Oo great times.

This is not a blood test

09:51 Oct 09 2010
Times Read: 782

I don’t like hospitals or doctors surgeries, but then who does? The only time we visit them is when we’re ill!!

So everyone kept telling me ''this is not a blood test''!!

How much don’t I like these places?

It took seven friends/family to secretly organize and attend my ‘flu jab’ today. You’d have thought I was at a book signing event, I was looking for the paparazzi.

Do I hate needles? You guys have no idea!

For a flu jab we even have to pay for the privilege of having a virus pumped into us … well I don’t as it’s free for me … how I wish I had to pay as ‘free for me’ means I have a dodgy ticker! That’s how it’s done in the UK, sorry America.

That all said, and I’ve never had a flu jab before, it was over and done with in 3 seconds, it would have been quicker if I could have took my jumper off sooner. It was painless, well I never knew!! I’m so use to the vampires and their needles taking my blood that I thought this was to be similar.

I'll never have one again. Twenty four hours later I was throwing up so hard I tore my stomach muscles...very bad reaction to the jab. Hope you don't have what I had.

It has been said that “what has been lived and shared can never be lost”, and it’s true for the main part but it doesn’t make life that much easier to bear.

If I’m sounding melancholy then that’s because I’m a little poorly right now. I’m dosed up, drowsy and have way too much time to reflect on things that seem unimportant or petty, but to me they are another story. I was asked recently ‘’where has that little boy inside you gone?”

I wish I knew!! I don’t even know why I even feel ‘down’.

Don't make me mother you. Take your meds. Rest. Drink your fluids, and read or watch something that makes you laugh. Laughter makes you heal. *mwa*
